We could post the minutes here. Before I do, I'd like some input regarding your concerns with how public we make information. The minutes document that got emailed around contains several email addresses and one persons home street address. Do you feel comfortable having that stuff up here? In the facebook era, maybe that isn't a relevant concern. What do you think?

Early on I distributed information to a larger group by way of the googles group and I was told by one person they didn't like their information put up that way. Perhaps, we could ask the group at the next meeting.

1. When we have more than a handful of trusted folks, then bcc'ing emails is a generally one good way to go. On the rare (but still too often) occasion, a "loose wire" individual can spread some mighty poor "vibes" by complaining & spreading misunderstandings to the whole email list. This is very unlikely but unfortunately possible & can happen. Because we cannot Reply All with bcc'ed emails, the original email sender (such as Diana) could have to take the time to Forward the Reply to the group. Alternatively, the "ProBoard" can be used instead of a Reply All, even though some will not check & read. 2. I'd suggest asking members if they want their email, their mailing address, their phone #, and the name shared with all in the group, (but 1st defining the type group & how well it's protected). Personally, I don't see much risk, unless computer "harvesting" programs can get ahold of our email addresses etc, but I'd not see how that would happen on a protected site or on personal email. It does happen on public websites though. 3. As I as well as most others don't know the latest computer tricks (& googles groups) too well, I hope you can find a friendly geek or two to help with these concerns, to see if there really is anything to worry about. Thanks for your good work!

I am a web developer and might be able to offer a little advise.
You are certainly correct when you say "In the facebook era" ...
Fact of the matter is, if you are using the internet (and most importantly, if you are using facebook) then there is very little privacy. Facebook has made a business off of people's personal information and habits, the government watches EVERY page your view on the internet and EVERY call you make, and satellites can read newspapers from space. I hate to say it, but if you are really concerned about privacy, then turn off your computer, throw away your cell phone, and don't walk outside.
That being said, people's privacy should ALWAYS be respected. The quick and easy solution is to take a few minutes and censor out anybody's personal information before posting it up here. If their information needs to be posted (in the case of "Contact so-and-so to RSVP"), then be sure to ask their permission prior to posting.
Another easy solution is to use the devil itself (Facebook) as a place to post news, meeting minutes, event invitations, etc. As unfortunate as it is, most everybody has a Facebook account. You could then hide information from people who are not "followers" or "likers" (whatever they call it). Hope that helps.

I believe that we need to have access to minutes of meetings. As we have seen, only about half of those identified as "Founders" can make it to an individual meeting, and few seem to be able to attend two meetings in a row. There were some important decisions made at yesterday's meeting that I would like to know about. (I arrived late and had to leave early, so I only know part of the story.) If this site is not secure, can we have a password-protected website for Founders/Members only?

We can make this board private. I posted the minutes from yesterday because there is no private info in them. Once we get all the participants on here, we'll make membership by permission only and we'll make several threads visible to members only. Then we can post emails and home addresses and phone numbers without worry. Until then, I'll be careful about what I post. Thanks for participating in the conversation.
