Marketing and Membership Committee meeting
9-23 at Otter's Chicken Tenders
Sue mentioned that there is a planned October 15th trip to Atlanta cohousing. See Diana for more information.
Membership categories
We decided to use the membership categories as mentioned in the Cohousing notebook from the Getting it Built Workshop: full, associate, departing. Once you contribute $100 you're an associate member, and then you pay $100 every quarter after that, until you have reached $500, at which point you become a full member. The Cohousing notebook recommended asking people to pay 5% of the estimated cost of their house, but since we don't have a site yet we decided to postpone the decision. We did not come to a specific conclusion about whether married couples should pay $500 or $1000.
Sallie recommended that all the money after $500 be put in a separate "pot" so it can be pulled out for the use of the various specific sites when the time comes. The $500 could be considered a membership fee to belong to the umbrella group. A need for the group's finances to be transparent was discussed. And we will need to "bond" (insure) people and do other things to make sure the money is secure.
Social gatherings
Rebecca reported on opportunties for social gatherings. She has found out that the Loveless Cafe is having a Biscuits and Bluegrass Festival Oct. 8th 10-4. Everyone agreed that that sounded like fun. Linda Ray's Nashville in Harmony group is also singing at the Schermerhorn October 1st and 5:00 and the group is encouraged to come.
Non Violent Communication
Kate talked about opportunities to learn more about Non-Violent Communication, and said she would bring a handout and perhaps do a small presentation on it.
Handout creation
Sue brought an example of a 5x 8 postcard that we could use. We could get a 1000 for $160, and mailing them costs the same as a 3 by 5 postcard.
